Mary Downey-Jones, MA, LPC

My name is Mary Downey-Jones. I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor for several years. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Washington University and received a Master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling from Missouri Baptist University. I believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship. I genuinely value the importance of building rapport with clients and supporting clients in finding a therapist they feel is a good fit for them based on their individual treatment needs and goals. I believe in the inherent resilience of the human spirit and embrace a strength-based lens when working with individuals who have experienced trauma as well as other challenges and stressors. I strive to help my clients engage and enhance their capacity for introspection, reflection, and self-awareness and to better understand and navigate their past, present, and future, allowing them to feel empowered and hopeful despite the trauma and hardships. I promote and embrace the practice of mindfulness and gratitude, the value of human connection and the importance of finding meaning in one’s life.

I utilize person-centered, cognitive behavior therapy, existential therapy, Equine Assisted Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) to guide my practice. I have worked with children, teens, and families who have experienced:

  • Depression

  • Self-harm

  • Anxiety

  • Anger management

  • Eating disorders

  • Sexual abuse

  • Physical abuse

  • Family trauma
